All God's Children

All God's Children summer camp offers Baltimore area children from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds an opportunity to enjoy and appreciate their differences together. Co-sponsored by the Children's Peace Center and the Church of the Holy Nativity in Baltimore, the camp provides children time to play, work, and learn in a community dedicated to peace. This week is spent at the Bishop Claggett Center, a conference facility and camp of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland, located on a 260-acre former working farm in rural Fredrick County, MD.

In 2007, forty-nine campers and thirty-two staff participated in the diverse and demanding daily activities. In addition to typical camp activities like fishing, swimming, hiking, crafts, talent shows and games, the campers work daily on a theme related to Peacemaking.

"I caught a lot of fish in the pond"

The staff of adults, young adults, and junior counselors works hard to help the children develop skills in all areas of their lives, from biking to study to worship. For many of the campers, this peaceful, safe, and stimulating week is their only experience of Maryland outside of their city neighborhoods.
