The Children's Peace Memorial

An average of thirty-three children under 18 years of age die each year in Baltimore City as a result of violence.

The Episcopal Cathedral of the Incarnation has dedicated a portion of its grounds as a healing and meditation garden to the memory of all these young people, with a sculptural centerpiece of a sleeping lion and lamb, referencing the Isaiah scripture: "The lion and the lamb shall lie together...and a small child shall lead them".

Created through a partnership with the TKF Foundation (www.tkffdn.org), the garden is one of TKF's Sacred Spaces. The Peace Memorial is visible at the intersection of St. Paul Street and University Parkway. Handmade tiles commemorating the lives of children are embedded near the site.

The Children's Peace Memorial garden includes a bench and attached weather proof journal at the TKF Foundation's request. In it, visitors have recorded their reflections and prayers for our city's children, knowing that each death diminishes our community. The Children's Peace Center hopes to prevent more of these tragic losses.

"I am remembering Jason who died long ago-5/16/1988-because he didn't know he was loved, wanted and valued. ...may we all learn to cherish our children."-Anonymous

By integrating the garden's regular care into the activities of the Children's Peace Center, the children have access to the nurturing skills of gardening and the curative powers of nature.

This Memorial is made possible through the generous support of the TKF Foundation, and private contributions.
